Summary of organization history, goals and key achievements

The mission of the Health Awareness Connection, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, is to provide health education toward the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) including HIV disease to at-risk segments of the population. The Health Awareness Connection is involved in a variety of projects in the United States and internationally. These projects include the creation of educational posters and brochures for distribution in the developing world and over the internet. Our biggest challenge is in the developing countries but STDs remain a worldwide problem. This website plays an important part in reaching everyone. It is always evolving towards helping the largest number of individuals possible.

The Health Awareness Connection was a direct outcome of the two year research fellowship that the director, Dr. Robert Taylor completed in June 1995 with the Harvard AIDS Institute Institute Since 1994, thousands of STD prevention classes have been successfully given on a regular weekly basis to inner-city middle and high school students (see educational programs). Realistic STD/AIDS prevention messages are taught to classes of students in the metropolitan Boston area schools, community agencies, and prisons by Dr. Taylor, a physician specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of STDs and HIV disease. Dr. Taylor has designed a unique and creative class on STD/AIDS prevention suitable for young people. Helpful, printed materials, i.e., posters and guides, have been designed and many are available free on this website. Although the emphasis is on abstinence ("If you don't have sex, you don't have to worry about getting STDs"), alternate ways of prevention are discussed. STDs are a major cause of morbidity in young people in Boston and throughout the world. Every case of STD that is prevented represents an individual with a better life. With continued expansion of projects here and abroad, the Health Awareness Connection continues its investment in the potential of the youth of the world.

The Health Awareness Connection was founded in 1997 to help provide grants to continue our mission. Click here to contribute. The objective is to reach the maximum number of people and to reduce the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS.
